An outdoor wedding in Uganda is a beautiful thing — soft evening light, generous space, and gardens that seem made for celebration. But the setups that photograph the best are almost always the ones planned with a slightly paranoid mind. Below is the checklist we walk every couple through when they choose an open-air venue.
Start with the guest count, then work outwards to the tent, the flow, and the weather. Every other decision follows those three.
1. Right-size the tent
A common mistake is renting a tent sized for seated guests only. Once you add the buffet line, the dance floor, and the ambient standing space, you need 10–12 square feet per guest for a cocktail-style event and 15–18 for a plated dinner.
For 200 guests dining under cover, we typically recommend a 15m x 30m stretch tent or a pair of connected frame tents — never one tight structure.
2. Plan for weather — twice
Uganda's rains are short but decisive. Every outdoor plan should have a wet-weather version rehearsed the day before: where the ceremony moves to, how the aisle drains, whether the DJ's power is elevated. If you can't answer these in one sentence each, the plan isn't finished.
3. Design the guest journey
Guests remember flow, not floorplans. Where do they arrive? Where's the first drink? How far to the restroom? A good outdoor setup answers each in under 30 seconds of walking.
